We are all familiar with the golden rule of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” but when did it become okay for us to be unkind to our bodies in the way that we think, feed, and treat ourselves? A recently conducted study looked at army recruits who needed to lose weight. The researchers found that the people with self-compassion slimmed down, even under stressful circumstances (and serving in the military gives plenty of those), while those who had a negative self-image gained weight. Who knew that the way we perceive ourselves could have such a great impact on our ability to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle!
