Meet KORR

At KORR Medical Technologies, we have applied years of respiratory research to take on the challenge of health and fitness. KORR makes it possible for practitioners to obtain an accurate measurement of an individual’s unique resting metabolic rate, considered by many to be the new “vital sign” for obesity treatment. Similarly, KORR puts the high tech training tools of VO2 Max and Anaerobic Threshold detection into the hands of fitness trainers at every level of expertise. The results of all tests are presented in a format that will help educate and motivate the client. At KORR we believe that for scientific data to be useful it must not only be accurate, but must be communicated in a manner that is both understood and accepted by the client.

KORR metabolic analyzers, both resting and VO2, are unparalleled in their performance for accuracy and reliability in the compact market. Through FDA approval, as well as independent studies, the products’ high quality and accuracy have been validated. KORR Medical Technologies is ISO 13485 certified and complies with all the requirements of good manufacturing practices (GMP). KORR has been awarded a U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule 6511A Contract for Medical Equipment & Supplies (contract number V797P-2124D).

Patents + Intellectual Property

Dr. Orr and Dr. Kofoed are the inventors of over 42 issued US and international patents. These patents protect 16 medical and other devices presently on the market and in clinical use.

Our History

Our History

KORR Medical Technologies was founded in 1993 by Scott Kofoed, Ph.D. and Joseph Orr, Ph.D. in Salt Lake City Utah as a vehicle to commercialize proprietary respiratory flow-measurement technology. That technology is incorporated in medical instruments sold by GE Medical Systems, Siemens, Novametrix Medical Systems, PDS Instrumentation, Fluke Biomedical, Respironics, and others. These systems have a wide range of applications including:

  • Metabolic Rate Analysis Systems
  • Cardiac Output Monitors
  • Liquid Lung Ventilation
  • Drug Delivery Systems
  • Neuromuscular Monitoring Devices
  • Respiratory Mechanics Measurement Systems
  • Ventilator Testing and Evaluation Equipment
  • Precision Gas Flow Measurement Systems
  • Spirometry – Lung Function Testing Devices

In 2001, KORR introduced the CardioCoach™, the first of the metabolic analyzers. From there followed the MetaCheck™, ReeVue™, and the expanded line of CardioCoach™ products. The accuracy and reliability of these products has secured KORR’s place as an industry leader in the field of metabolic testing.

Dr Joseph Orr, PhD

Dr Joseph Orr, PhD
Founder and CTO

Dr Joseph Orr is the Chief Technical Officer of KORR Medical Technologies. After developing a metabolic measurement system for NASA in 1987, Dr Orr continued his research of metabolic rate measurement through oxygen consumption. This proprietary technology, reserved at one time to monitor, train, and evaluate elite astronauts, became the foundation of KORR Medical Technologies. He established KORR in 1993 with Dr Scott Kofoed.

Dr. Joseph Orr has over 20 years experience as an expert in respiratory and anesthesia instrumentation with an emphasis on studies, measurement and analysis of physiologic oxygen consumption and CO2 production. In addition to his position as co-founder and CEO of KORR Medical, Dr. Orr is a research associate professor at the University of Utah, Department of Anesthesiology. He has authored 26 peer-reviewed publications and currently holds 42 US patents and has multiple patents pending. Dr. Orr holds a PhD in bioengineering from the University of Utah and a master of engineering management degree from Brigham Young University.
